So what exactly did you 'Innovate'?

On July 29, 2009 I was recognized for my work on a project. I've been asked several times over exactly what it is that I did to receive such an honor. Here is my feeble attempt at doing so...

The original process:

Step 1 : Generate two forms in an electronic format. Transmit these forms via email to all persons responsible for completing them. (~100 recipients)

Step 2 : Recipients of the forms complete them and then return them either via email, fax, or internal snail mail. Each form is 2 pages long. (~400 total pages)

Step 3 : Collate and copy all forms received to create ten (or nine, but 10 gives us round numbers :) ) binders containing all forms received. Each form also has a score sheet. Send the binders and score sheets to the scoring committee and await their response. (~6,000 total pages)

Step 4 : Collate the scores provided by the scoring committee.

Finally, hope nothing gets lost, misplaced, damaged, or destroyed in the process.

The new process:

Step 1 : Send an email instructing recipients to complete the form online.
Step 2 : Send an email instructing the scoring committee to score the forms online.

Of course, there are some other things involved in the process that didn't change. Those things were omitted specifically because they didn't change and have almost no impact on the process.

I am honored and humbled to have received the award and to have my efforts recognized. Thank you to those persons responsible and to those that put up with my constant rants about usability and browser compliance and end-user opinions.
