Anyone here ever tried to build a multi-lingual website?
Me neither. But I began that process last week and I'm having to consider the ramifications of it this week. This particular site is already 90% database driven but adding in multi-lingual support is becoming a major challenge in trans-dimensional thinking. With more than 300 sections to the main site and over 100 sub-level departments and sections making this kind of change is huge.

Deployed...
One of my co-workers found out yesterday that he may be deployed to Iraq.
I'm at a loss for words. I barely know him, but I would consider him a friend. The thought of him going is not something that settles well.
If it feels this bad when someone I barely know goes, I can't imagine a close family member going.

Deadlines
are useless.
So the boss walks in today and says "I promised [*The Big Boss] that he could have this website by tomorrow. Come see me in 10 minutes and we'll go over it."
Did I mention how often this happens? I really do enjoy my job and this happens everywhere, not just here. But we are not talking about a simple little thing. We are talking about roughly 20 pages of content that must look nice.
So of course, everything else gets put on hold until this is done.

The new digs...
2006.08.29 The lease got signed.
2006.08.30 I moved in at 8 A.M.
2006.08.31 I slept in till 7 A.M.
We are now in a 1600 sq ft, 3 bed, 2.5 bath, 2 car, 2 story rental. The neighbors are friendly (all armed forces of some type), the schools are great, and if it wasn't for the traffic, my drive would only be about 20 minutes each way.
I'm still working my tail off but I am spending alot more time off the road now and saving alot on gas (besides it dropping to $2.37 / gallon at some places).
Long Time, No Post
What can I say? I've been earning my money.
In the last month, we've rolled out a new design, and are implementing new features and design changes left and right. I am still driving back and forth from here to there (90 miles one-way, 180 miles round-trip) at least 5 days a week and usually 6 spending $55.00 every 2 days on gas. School starts in one week and the little ones are restless as ever.

Job Satisfaction
If there is one thing that is really, really, really cool about my job...well, there isn't just one, there are many.
So many that I can't even begin to describe them.
I just love my job. And that is something that I haven't been able to say in a long, long time.
Don't dare wake me from this dream or I'll have to hurt you.

Webmaster...
One might say that having goals is a good thing. But what does one do when life is such a fluid journey down a road that changes often and leads to unexpected adventures?
One gets over it and keeps on moving so as not to hold up traffic.
Ten years ago my only goal was to be sitting in front of a computer making lots of money. One month ago my only goal was to be challenged even if it meant less money. Goals mean nothing if they can never be reached. Money isn't everything, happiness is. I'm happy. Hell, I'm ecstatic.

Personality Conflict?
So I call up the now former client to inquire about the final paycheck and such and during the conversation he basically says that it was a personality conflict.
PERSONALITY CONFLICT!?!?!?

In Between
I was told yesterday afternoon that my services were no longer needed. This was of course after I had told the client that my last day would be the end of the month. I'm not really upset although it is going to be a huge financial impact but I was prepared for it. Having worked with this particular breed of client before I knew it was coming.
I already have another job lined up that starts July 3rd and I may even be able to get them to advance the start date but it still would have been nice to be working for the next 3 weeks rather than waiting.
Life goes on. In Between.
